Inverted Pyramid helps you get what you need quickly

Journalists are taught to write in what's called an "inverted pyramid" style. Train yourself to recognize this and you will be better able to use the SQ3R method to scan a newspaper of magazine and quickly find what you most want and need to know. This is also an excellent system to help you write reports, essays, and answers to test questions.

The inverted pyramid can also help you find the 4 News Elements. A summary of the new information should come in the first paragraph (the 5W&H).
Background-information should generally come later in the story/report.
